The approval means Pfizer will not be able to offer men with erectile dysfunction or other conditions in its range the option to buy the medicine without the approval of the MHRA.

He said: "The MHRA is very concerned about the potential health risks associated with the use of Viagra. The product will be used by a small number of men in their 20s and 30s who suffer from ED and other impotence. The products will not be used for treating other health problems or in the treatment of other problems that may be associated with ED."
Dr David Brennan, a specialist in sexual medicine at the University of Sydney, said: "The supply of Viagra for patients with erectile dysfunction will be crucial in improving the lives of those patients.
"If we don't give them Viagra, they will not get treatment. It is time to protect the public health.
"The MHRA is committed to ensuring that men with ED are able to access the treatment they need to improve their quality of life."
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency will inform the public of the decision within three years.
